Eight years after selling Hourglass to Unilever, Carisa Janes is stepping back into beauty - but this time, she’s prioritising simplicity, sustainability, and skin-first formulations.

Carisa Janes, the founder of Hourglass Cosmetics, is returning to the beauty scene with a new venture called Outside-In. The brand, which officially launches this week, marks Janes’ first major project since selling Hourglass to Unilever Prestige in 2017.
Outside-In debuts with three products - including a nourishing face oil and a complexion range featuring 25 foundation shades - designed as skincare-makeup hybrids. The collection reflects a growing industry shift toward streamlined routines and multifunctional products that enhance, rather than conceal, the skin.

Sustainability is central to the brand’s philosophy. Outside-In uses packaging made from bio-resins and reduced virgin plastic, a nod to the broader clean-beauty movement that favours high-performance formulas with environmental consideration.
While Janes continues her roles at Hourglass and wellness brand Nature of Things, Outside-In represents something more personal - a creative venture shaped by experience and a desire to build slowly rather than scale quickly.
Launching into a competitive prestige market, Outside-In positions itself as a modern alternative: fewer products, smarter formulas, and a focus on what truly makes a difference.
